Sioux Falls and the towns around it
Sioux Falls Plumbing Pros matches homeowners in Sioux Falls, Brandon, Harrisburg, Tea, Hartford, Dell Rapids and Crooks with independent local plumbers. The guides on this site were written for Sioux Falls; here is what changes once you cross the city line, and what we have and have not read.
What changes by area
- Who issues the plumbing permit Inside Sioux Falls, the City's Building Services does, and it requires a City-licensed plumbing contractor for any paid work. Outside the city, a town may run its own program or the State Plumbing Commission's homeowner certificate and inspections may apply.
- Which license list to check The South Dakota State Plumbing Commission license applies everywhere in the state. The City of Sioux Falls plumber contractor license applies inside the city limits.
- Response time Once matching opens, requests will go to plumbers who cover your area. A call in Dell Rapids or Hartford is a longer drive from Sioux Falls than one in the city, which matters for after-hours work.
Area by area
| Community | County | Permits and licensing |
|---|---|---|
| Sioux Falls | Minnehaha and Lincoln counties | City permit program read: Building Services issues plumbing permits and licenses plumbing contractors (see the permits page). Any paid plumbing work in the city runs through a City-licensed plumbing contractor. |
| Brandon | Minnehaha County | Permit program not read. Ask the city office whether it issues its own plumbing permits or whether the State Plumbing Commission's program applies. |
| Harrisburg | Lincoln County | Permit program not read. Same question for the city office. |
| Tea | Lincoln County | Permit program not read. |
| Hartford | Minnehaha County | Permit program not read. |
| Dell Rapids | Minnehaha County | Permit program not read. |
| Crooks | Minnehaha County | Permit program not read. |
Sioux Falls spans both Minnehaha and Lincoln counties. Tea and Harrisburg are in Lincoln County; the others listed are in Minnehaha.
Outside a city permit program
For a home that is not covered by a city plumbing program, the State Plumbing Commission's rules apply directly: a licensed plumber for paid work (SDCL 36-25-17), or, for a homeowner doing their own work on a single-family home they own and occupy, a homeowner plumbing installation certificate from the Commission ($130, good for two years, with underground, rough-in and final inspections by a state inspector). Commercial and rental properties must be plumbed by a licensed contractor. The Commission is at 605-773-3429.
What we match, everywhere in the area
- Emergency plumbing: burst pipes, backups, leaking water heaters, no water.
- Drain cleaning and sewer line work, including camera inspections.
- Water heater repair and replacement, tank and tankless.
- Frozen pipe thawing and repair.
- General repairs: leaks, toilets, faucets, sump pumps, water softeners.
Prices do not change by town on this site, because every figure is a national cost-guide range (no Sioux Falls plumber publishes a price list). See the cost page, and the how matching works page for what happens after a request.
